Want a good sleeper? Start Early!

If you want a good sleeper, you need to start good sleep habits as early as possible. Ideally, this means you prep to set a great sleep foundation *while you’re still pregnant!* That way, you can begin on DAY 1 with your sweet baby.I know that this can be tough since you might just want to cuddle your baby 24/7.  But, just know that the earlier you start these good habits, and the more consistent you are, the faster you and baby will be able to get adequate, good quality sleep!   This can include: :: Sleepytime routine: something simple…

Let’s Talk about Sleep, Baby.

Here are a few things to try to help your little one to self-soothe, settle, and more easily avoid the “witching hour”: :: Create a Routine with Sleep Triggers: If your little one doesn’t have a sleep routine yet, now is the time to start! If you consistently use the same routine to get baby down for naps and bed, he will start to associate parts of that routine with going to sleep and they will actually become signals for his body to start relaxing! Just like you might have morning routine (get up, brush teeth, coffee, etc) that gets…

Common Sleep Myths…Debunked!

There’s so much mis-information out there, especially when it comes to baby’s sleep! Here are some common misconceptions and the truths behind them!   Myth: If you keep baby up during the day, he’ll sleep better at night. Reality: No, no, no, no, no! (Can you tell that I feel strongly about this?!) Daytime sleep begets nighttime sleep. So, the only thing that you’ll accomplish by forcing baby to stay awake during the day is a very grumpy and overtired kid. It’s possible that after a lots of stress, fussing and craziness, he’ll finally crash and pass out. But, that…

Do you believe in magic?

Q: How do I find the “magic window” to lay baby down? A: The best ways to find baby’s “magic window” are to: :: look for baby’s sleepy signs: pulling at ears, zoning out, closing fists, going cross-eyed, yawning, making jerky arm and leg movements, looking away from you/ stimulation, arching backwards, sucking on fingers (trying to self-soothe), frowning or looking sad, mild fussing or whining, getting very still and quiet. :: chart his naps: this will give you a solid idea of how much sleep he’s getting and help you to recognize his sleep needs and patterns :: take…

tjenamårs, baby! let’s get building!

It’s a well known fact that building a piece of ikea furniture is it’s own form of torture. It’s confusing even for the smartest of people, you pretty much always end up with an extra screw or two left over (where was THAT supposed to go?!), and makes you feel like an idiot when it takes 6 hours to build a two shelf bookcase. Did you know that you can actually hire someone to come and assemble your Ikea furniture for you? Sounds pretty incredible, right?! How nice would it be for someone else to take the stress & confusion…

Everybody has gas.

That being said, some babies are more prone to gas than others. If you’re little one is struggling to release that uncomfortable build-up, there are a bunch of ways to help lessen the excess bubbles. You can try: :: Burp for Longer: Go for 3-5 straight minutes, even if you’re not getting any bubbles out. Just keep going. Also, make sure you’re firmly patting baby. If your touch is too soft, it might not get the burp or toot out of baby. :: Tummy massage: Rub his belly (start at the left hip bone, with two fingers, apply light pressure…

TBT: That Time I was Pantsed at the Zoo

Here’s how it played out: It was a ridiculously hot day, I was on summer break from high school and, at the time, I was nannying for a stay-at-home dad. We decided to slather the kiddos with sunscreen, pop them in the car and head off to the zoo for the day. Sounds fun, right?! Well up to this point, it was. We checked out the Reptile House, ventured through Carnivore Kingdom, chirped our way through Bird Valley and jumped Monkey Junction. We we’re having a blast!  So much fun actually, that the littlest babe, who was only about 6…

Feeling the feely feels of feelings.

I’m not sure what the weather is like by you, but here it’s dreary and rainy out. I sometimes wonder if how I’m feeling effects the weather or if maybe the opposite it happening and the weather is changing my mood…or maybe there’s no connection between the two haha and I’m placing a significance on something that doesn’t exist. Who knows! It’s been one of those weeks though where I could swear that Mother Nature is taking her cues from what’s going on in my life and how I’m feeling. Because this week, we’ve had pelting rain, lovely sunshine, crazy wind,…

Enjoy the little moments.

It’s easy to wish it away. Whenever there is an exciting event in your future-whether it’s an upcoming 6-figure launch, an awesome concert on the weekend or a baby arriving in a few months- it can be easy to wish away the time. I know that I totally fall prey to this. It’s almost too easy to get caught up in the excitement or the busy-ness and then start living for the future or the weekend or whatever big thing is coming up next. I snap into that mode often when I peek at my calendar and see something fun…
